I attend the church, and have invested many hours in the course. This course has given me the opportunity to re-learn to play golf without it being a party and stopping on every other hole. I also decided to attend the church instead of playing during the services. I decided to give a painting to the church to show the appreciation I have for them putting the course in which led me back to God. At the tournament many church members came to me and thanked me for donating the painting and express how beautiful it was. That was so great for me to hear and really sent a message that I am going in the right direction. It was mentioned that they looked up my art on the internet, which was great and scary at the same time. I have people respecting me and looking up to something I do, and now I must not let these people down. I have always had this responsibility, just chose to ignore it. I was thinking on my way home from the tournament, that I thought more of my old friends would be there then I realized it was sanctioned and they would be at moffitt drinking. This is when I realized how many new friends I have met playing at windwood and I can't be more thankful for that.
THAT my friend....was powerfull. Thank you for sharing your life so intimantly. I'm proud to call Matchu my friend

I vote for no smoking and no alcohol. Windwood is becoming one of the best places to throw, it doesn't have to be the coolest place to PLAY... Ask some local pros, courses have been pulled for stuff as small as a dog without a leash.

Not exactly sure what is so damn funny, but I do understand why people throw these type of comments out. I have done many times myself, but I now know I do nothing to stimulate the conversation what so ever. I can say to myself and get the same laugh and have people wanting to respect and be my friend. I want to be a better person with the new group I have chosen to spend my time with will not be treating me the way my other friends have. I will not be treating them in a harsh way either. I was thinking there might be an issue when I saw my old group of friends and did loose a bit of sleep over it. Funny thing is not one of them played or showed up, so it was all for nothing. I love my new home and my new friends!

btw, Joe thought you were playing this tourney?

Just so everybody knows and/or remembers....no "substance abuse" of ANY kind is allowed during a PDGA sanctioned tournament (which was the case Saturday). I like to party a little (sometimes a lot!) when playing a casual round also....but I have no problem using a little self-control on tourney day. I can't make it out to Windwood very often since I live in League City, but I have no problem abiding by the church rules when I do make it out there! If someone told me I had to choose between getting loaded or playing disc golf, it would be a no-brainer for me (just in case you're wondering, I would choose to play!)....now, I might indulge myself a bit on the way over there, but I would not have a problem following the rules while I was there. For those of you who do have a problem with that, then maybe it would be best to stay away....I would also venture to say that you might have a far more serious problem in the first place...and good luck with that!

MATT - you are the man! It takes a BIG MAN to walk away from what is comfortable and into a new way of living. Way to go my friend!

This is what I LOVE about PRIVATE courses! Windwood has graciously allowed the general public access to their course and land. But at the end of the day, that land BELONGS to the church.
Why is this a good thing? Because private land owners have the right to set their ground rules! It also generally means less graffiti, better kept courses, and generally less traffic, making for a speedier round!
Everybody knows me, and I too can party w the best, but I love the sport too much to jeopardize losing a course over my vices. In the end, if you choose to do what you want on courses, then I invite you to go play a 4 hour round at a course with riff raff and profanity laiden benches from people who care nothing for the future of the sport. Respect the game, and our gracious hosts.

Thanks Doug, it was no easy chore to say the least and I still have long ways to go. It is amazing what I put up with and dished out for so long. It took a lot to wake me up and fight to get out of the repetitive cycle I have been on for years. It is really bothersome when people come up to me and talk about how great it was to meet me and I can't for the life of me remember meeting this person much less making a good impression on them. I have been selfish for far too long.

p.s. a great friend came to talking about taking the steps..... and I had not seen him in quite some time and I that really shook me up. Thank you friend!
