I am sorry to announce that the donation box at Windwood was broken into. They hit it enough times that it finally broke one of the welds. UGH! The worst part about it is that it probably was a disc golfer cause only dgers know about it. That donation box was bringing just enough to cover the cost of gas to maintain the course. Only the course will suffer.

IF anyone knows of a welder that can drive out to the box to fix it please let me know. We can't remove it, it has 200lbs of concrete and lots of rebar driven many feet into the ground to secure it.

Also, if you see people drinking on the course please encourage them to do it discretely. On Sat there apparently was a group of guys caring their six packs out to tee box 1 (by the church entrance) as church members where driving in for a meeting. NOT GOOD. We all want this course to be a great place for everyone. lets all work together to keep windwood a special place for disc golf.

Unhappy Re: Course Information Page

That's awful. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same kids trying to sell back discs they found for $5.

Just to be clear...ALCOHOL IS PROHIBITED ON THE COURSE. I just know the reality is that some won't follow that rule.

If you find kids selling discs on the church property, please call me at 281-450-3271 and I will get em and get all the discs. Frankly if you see anyone doing something call me.

I am working with a good welder right now and will talk to him and see if he can fix the box up nice. As for the people drinking beer, I've not played the course since the tourny and I didn't play Saturday (sons Birthday party). But, they shouldn't have been so stupid and had it right there in the open. Ruins it for everyone else. Kinda.

You need to get out to windwood more often. LOL if you have a contact that can help with the welding that would be amazing. I have a feeling lots of welders have the set up on a truck and they can back right up to it. :-)

I can't even put into words how disappointed I am to hear all this....
1. Disc Golfers breaking into the donation box.
2. Disc Golfers calling people trying to sell them their disc back for 5 bucks that they pulled from the ravine.
3. Disc Golfers who show such blatan disrespect for the property owners rules regarding alcohol on the course.

And this is how they behave on a church course.. It's no wonder is it?

1. Why Disc Golf courses like Oak Meadows become restricted and completely private so quickly.
2. Why HPARD hasn't been a huge supporter of Disc Golf in the past.
3. Why Disc Golf tournments are struggling to find sponsorships and the sport as a whole has stagnated
4. Why Disc Golf can't gain respect in the community.

No one wants to be a jerk at a course.. I get that... I've had a few beers on the course myself in the past, especially during the summer, so I'm not going to be a hypocrite.. I've done it, but I've also realized that Windwood was not the place to drink beer during a round of golf. There is a time and place for everything and Windwood is not the place for alcohol.

Windwood has been ultra supportive of disc golf - just take a good look at the place next time your out there - I put it against any other course in town that your able to just pull up to and play, for free any time you like. It doesn't take 4 years and 15 meetings with the ever changing head of some department to get to get an improvement.. All it takes is a few volunteers and a Saturday efternoon.. This course can be as good as the area disc golfers want it to be, as quickly as they'll step up and do it. Area disc golfers have done it and the church has gone out of their way to support them..

Windwood caters to the serious disc golfer by being open to improvements quickly and keeping the grounds and fairways in pristeen conditions. Now it's up to the serious disc golfers to stand up for Windwood. It's your course to keep or to lose. We can continue to turn a blind eye to those we see disrespecting our course and we'll lose it.

I contend those that carry a six pack out to hole 1, could care less if the course were pulled tomorrow morning.. I could care less if I "offend" them by telling them to either pour all their beer out or hit the road. I don't care who they are.

You've worked very hard to make Windwood what it is today.. A lot of very real people at Windwood have gone to bat for the serious Disc Golf player. I can't imagine Windwood will tolerate much longer the complete disrespect of those who have none... and the passive behavior from those who have been given such a wonderful gift....

If Windwood pulls this course..... What other church will open it's doors for one?

It's time for the serious players to get serious...

Maybe a "season pass" is in order....it would help raise funds & I doubt if the kind of idiots that broke into the donation box would want to pay it! I'm sure most of the "good" batch of players would be happy to pay 20 or 25 bucks for a yearly pass! Sad, sad, sad.....

It's not like this is just some anomaly occurring at Windwood. Casual golf rats are unfortunately a large demographic in the disc golf scene. Even if everyone that reads this makes their best effort to enforce all of these rules, it is highly unlikely that anything will change. I think we just have to endure the downsides that come with having such a great course on church property. Nobody wants to see the course pulled, but at the same time, we need to be realistic about what is going to happen on a disc golf course. To hope that others will show any more respect for a course since it is on church grounds is a stretch because we all know how many players are devout followers with strong morals

This is not to sound like a pessimist about the situation, but it seems like people are always posting on here preaching to the choir or threatening to pull the course. Let's continue to stay optimistic about the situation but approach it realistically. If this fails, maybe you guys could start to evangelize with the rule breakers on the tee box... that would definitely make them think twice about lighting up the ganj or cracking open their six pack-O-PBR

Scott - Couldn't have said it better myself.

Everyone - We just installed a very basic stepping stones system (concrete bags set in the water) across the ditch on hole 13. I want to see how it works and we will install a second one farther down.

If you play let me know how it works for you.

Peace
Doug
