Legal Expenses Fund Raising for Cheryl

For those of you who do (and even if you don't) know Cheryl Floyed, you may or may not know that she has a 13 year old daughter named Jessica. Jessica's father retained custody of Jessica after the divorce almost 9 years ago. Jessica will be 14 in February and has decided she wants to come home to live with Mom. Jessica's "father" has decided that he knows best and has turned all of this into a very vindictive and nasty mudslinging custody battle. The jerk has the money to drag this out in court and he knows that Cheryl doesn't.

We have had a couple of fund raisers and have been given some very good information on local groups that help get the child's voice heard. We still need more money to defray the rapidly mounting legal expenses. I talk to Jessica myself often and if any judge ever heard what Jessica had to say, this would be an open and shut case. But with no regards to the emotional abuse Jessica is suffering, Jessica's "the guy who pays for the house" only has his own selfish pride in mind. He is doing everything he can to keep Jessica from talking to the judge.

So I am here sending out a plea to the disc golf community on behalf of Cheryl and Jessica. I have a PayPal account setup to accept donations that will be used exclusively for legal expenses in bringing Jessica home. It is our understanding that Jessica needs her own attorney outside of the parents' attorneys. Fund raisers always say “Every little bit helps” and in this case, that really is true. If everyone on this board donated $1, that would almost cover all of the costs involved. If everyone on this board donated $1000, that would pay for me to go to law school and handle the case myself but by that time Jessica would be living on her own and could stay with whomever she wished. So let’s go with the $1 idea.

In all seriousness, even if you can’t donate any money at this time, please keep Cheryl and Jessica in your prayers. Jessica calls Cheryl at least once a week crying that she wants to come home. I’m not making that up to pull on your heart strings. Jessica’s father is really making Jessica’s life that miserable by keeping Jessica from coming to stay with Cheryl. Jessica is a teen-aged girl and a teen-aged girl needs her mother.
