I went by Miramar Park today and walked the course. It is unplayable unless you are diehard. #1 basket is missing
The concrete and stub of sleeve is still there leaning. Big downed trees on #2,3,4. Really have to walk through them on the fairways. 5,6,7,8,9 look playable if you want to play a shortened course. I will keep you posted as improvements come along.

My wife & I finally ventured to Seabrook Friday night...we sold our house which was right next to Miramar Park three years ago after Rita. Both of us started to cry when we got over there....all of the houses in the three cul-de-sacs next to the park had between 4 & 5 feet of water in them from the surge. Everything these people owned was out on the front lawn at every single house...it was extremely depressing & we were feeling extremely grateful to have got out when we did. I know Bart Taylor was living down there near Todville & Justin & the Beards live down there too. My heart goes out to all of those families in Seabrook & Kemah & everywhere else along the shores who lost so much. Needless to say, the course is pretty well trashed right now. The upside to this is that hopefully when the city rebuilds the course they will go ahead & put in the alternate boxes they had already approved for us a couple of months ago (but just hadn't gotten around to doing it yet). Birdshot will contact David Hyde with the parks department & make that suggestion. I don't know why they wouldn't go ahead & do that if they have to rebuild the course anyway...we'll keep you posted on that...don't expect anything anytime soon, though. I'm sure the disc golf course is the last thing on their minds right now.

I've talked to a couple of Seabrook people in the past week & they said you can still play the course (although Basket 1 is missing)....a lot of the trees that came down have apparently been hauled away already. I think I'll head over there after work tomorrow & check it out...also there are a couple of guys over there that want to sign up for Brooks on Saturday (anybody else interested should show up tomorrow around 5-5:15). Birdshot will be contacting David Hyde with Seabrook Parks Dept. regarding the maintenance of the course...they had already approved & was in the budget to put some alternate tee boxes in, so I'm hoping that if they re-do the course because of the storm damage they will also go ahead & put those in as well.

We played Seabrook on Saturday evening, our first round since Ike. The storm has had a major impact on the course. Here's a hole by hole summary:
1. The basket is gone. Some of the big trees about 30 feet from the tee box are gone, but not the main one directly ahead. On Saturday there was a temporary basket set up (thanks!). 2. Many trees down, especially along the ditch. Near the basket there were some big trees that were in the process of being cut up and dragged away. 3. Holy crap. We skipped playing this one due to all the felled trees. In many places the tree canopies made the gap to throw only a few feet wide. When the trees are cleaned out though, I think this hole will become easier. 4. I'd say about 50% of the big trees in the woods between hole's two and four are gone. It's going to be much easier to find discs in the woods now. This hole had the most changes; basically opening it up. I got my best first throw on this hole ever on Saturday. 5. Nothing's changed. 6. The tee box lost it's logs and there are a number of downed trees around the basket, but otherwise totally playable. 7. & 8. Nothing's changed. There is a smell around these two though. 9. No significant changes. The city of Seabrook doesn't have a lot to do to get this course back in fully playable condition. I'd like to see the new Tee boxes in but until that happens, you can totally make a round here enjoyable. |

Boy, it really is a totally different course now! I guess if it wasn't for the joggers using the path around the course the city may not have even moved out any debris yet, so thanks to the joggers! What was more depressing was seeing my old neighborhood still without power & trying to survive with all of their belongings still on their front lawns...sigh!

![]() The bad news was that Basket #9 is missing completly, leaving the course with only 7 baskets remaining (#1 is still MIA). We need to contact the Parks dept at Seabrook to convey our concern for the state of the course. A few months back Birdshot had a meeting with David Hyde & he said it was in feasible in the budget to buy the materials for us to put in alternate tees for the course. This was before the hurricane, however, and I guess someone/we need to talk to him again regarding the current conditions...what they're planning on doing about the missing baskets (if anything right now...there are still homeless people in Seabrook!)....and if they plan on redoing the course then why not go ahead & put in the alternate tees as well? But like I said...I doubt if the course is high on Seabrook's priority list right now.
