Once upon a time when there was a pipedream of putting in a course at my church - I priced rebar from a local dealer and even the thick gauge was pretty cheap, even with delivery. You're only talking around 100 12' pieces total.
Also, you might want to consider the poor man's form making by using fence slats and stakes. The wider fence slats work good, and it holds up long enough to pour. - Plus I can use my nail gun on the fence slats with a lot less effort than 2x4's. Something else you may want to consider to help with erosion is the rounded front. Note pictures from the following link to get an idea of what I mean. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/galler...=468&mode=gal# when you combine this with wood and mulch edging - you'll have boxes that would last a long time. Scott knows but Circle C - is a good example of the border. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/galler...=542&mode=gal# To make the rounded park would all be pretty easy an cheap by using stakes and the plastic edging you find used in gardens. Plus - if you're only pouring 2 or 3 boxes at a time, a lot will be reusable lowering cost and waste. Bottom line - If you find me the wood and materials - I have the tools and I can form your boxes pretty quick, plus in a rectangle shape or if you want to widen the back - i.e. 12x6 in the back and 12x5 in the front. One other thing - have you considered doing planned pours and just renting a mixer from Home Depot - if you were prepared with forms done and had the help - you could probably crank it out in 2 or 3 shifts. I haven't however priced mixers, but you'll want it after mixing one box worth of concrete by hand. I've done that and you want to die afterward. I think if your plan of attack was good enough - you could have the trucks come in and run wheelbarrows with many people on most holes. You figure about a yard a box as a conservative estimate (12x6) without the rounded front. Lots to think about, and yes David the baby is probably coming this week - but I would still love to help on this part. Oh and don't forget the bristle broom to sweep the concrete after it's been poured - it'd ruin the whole thing to forget that part.

Scott, wish I could make it out there to help with the tee boxes but my schedule is pretty busy for the next month or so. For cash donations, who should I make the check out to and where is the best place to mail it? Also, is there a way to run the donations through the Church to get a tax deduction. Thanks, Ramsey

this is a great idea if possible. getting a whole truck will save hundreds of dollars if all 18 are done this way. break the work down by big truck loads and get people out on that day with quads, trucks, and wheel barrows. wheel thingys. |

Just look on CraigsList. I saw an ad while searching PATIO. It was a guy who's business is slow and he was BEGGING for work. He had a concrete type company and mentioned that rebar and concrete are really cheap now and that it'll cut the cost to about $4/ft. I'll look again and post findings.
I haven't played the course yet, but if the fairways are level we could just do the chain gang method and get it done, as mentioned previously. If there are ruts and such, we'd lose half the load running it to the boxes from the trucks. You'll basically need a true concrete wheelbarrow with the large bucket....not the garden type. They do get heavy too. When approaching the businesses, did you tell them it was FOR A CHURCH? The particulars aren't necessary (for t-boxes). Just tell them what you need is for a church and that it'll save them a spot in Heaven.
