Default Trashed course...

We attempted to play this course over the weekend. It was in a terrible state, Many of the baskets are missing with only the pole left and the entire park had trash all over it.

Was this course a decent course at any time? It seems to be forgotten now.

Chuck & I went by there earlier this year & this park is a prime example of nobody giving a damn...obviously the city/county doesn't care & most likely there were never many people that played in that neighborhood in the first place. I would think that part of what would make a course popular is where you put it. Then again, maybe not...look at Macgregor! Somebody was attacked there a few months ago but that hasn't stopped any of us from going there to play. A woman was attacked at Jack Brooks Park about a month ago, but that certainly hasn't stopped us. You would think that any public park owned by either the city or the county would be maintained by the parks department...obviously that's not the case...sad.

In the daytime I've never felt uncomfortable there. There are almost always other disc golfers playing & usually (on a weekend) birthday parties & stuff going on...I just wouldn't want to spend the night at Macgregor.

I don't think that Mason Park would be any more dangerous than Mazola or MacGregor, especially during the day. The park was filled with families celebrating birthdays or just gathering. It seemed like the community enjoys the park, they just don't keep it clean. Mason Park just needs some attention given to it on a regular basis. It really was filthy with trash strewn about in not only the picnic areas, but also parts of the course. The top of basket #8 had a bag of trash sitting on it!

If the city isn't going to maintain the park course at a level that allows it to be played then perhaps we can petition the city to relocate the baskets to another park. I know there's been interest in bringing Mazola up to 18 baskets and Memorial Park, the city's largest public park, has room to spare for a quality course.

I would love to see a course somewhere in Memorial Park....it seems like that would have been an obvious choice many years ago.

Last time I played MacGregor , my brother and I were getting harassed and heckled by some guys sitting in a car by the #16 basket. It was 3 against 2, so we didn't engage, them, but I didn't feel safe. I will not play this course again unless there is a tournament. And just for the record it was 12:30pm on a Sunday afternoon, so it wasn't late.

I've played 1000+ rounds at MacGregor with no problems from daylight to way after dark for night golf. Though the Park Rangers did run us out of the park for having our Disc Golf Art Car there, said we were advertising or some crap. It was cleared up the next day with their director. Oh and the parks clean-up guy went ghetto on a group of eight of us playing doubles once, his tude changed with his managers help. Guess I was just lucky many times, now where are those damn lotto numbers I bought. Mason was trashed and baskets down when Skank and I went to all the Houston courses we had never played one day, that was 7 or 8 years ago, so go figure why it is in bad shape know. We lose our disc golf friendly contacts with every change of administration, then someone takes the time to rebuild the contacts and they are gone again, frustrating cycle. But coming from a city government background I know the last thing on their agenda is those things in the parks, what are they called? We all must remember too that Parks departments don't generate their own revenue, it comes from other department's resources, it's a money pit for the city.

I played at Macgregor alot when i lived downtown, and no one ever bothered me but i cant say that i felt safe at any time. Mozola is definitely safer, and yes there needs to be a course in Memorial Park for sure.
