Default Safty At Mason

I havn't been in this neighborhood in years. Is the park pretty safe to visit? I know its not in the best part of Houston. I am thinking of heading down there Saturday afternoon.

I wouldn't suggest it to a woman looking to play alone, but in a group, it seemed fine to me. We had the HPD drive through a couple of times while we played the mini couple of Saturdays back. Given it doesn't play right along the busy street, I felt safer there than I have at MacGregor in the past.

If you wear your cowboy hat and jean shorts you may stand out as "not from around there".
It's not that bad, just be out of there before dark.

I've always heard these same things about MacGregor too....never had a problem there either. Okay....maybe the hoodlums only come out at night...but the few times we've been out there the past month at Mason I see mostly families. I think the cops drove by last weekend during the mini wondering what all the cars were doing there! Maybe I'm a little naive (and maybe it's because nobody's ever tried to harm me)...but "bad neighborhood" stuff seems like a state of mind more than anything else.

Last year I went to Mason and the park was pretty sketchy. The grounds were overgrown in many areas and there was trash everywhere. We walked around and only found one basket, but never really felt unsafe. Most of the people at the park were families.

This year the park has been really cleaned up. The grounds are better maintained and the course is in very playable shape. Hole #8 has to be one of the best disc golf holes inside the loop. When I took my wife to play Mason we mostly encountered families with small kids and couples. No one even looked at us funny.

You should be fine.

Thanks for the info. I am going to head out there Saturday afternoon. I guess it can't be any worse than MacGregor.

I only wear the cowboy hat in the heat of summer. I will settle of just a ball cap on Saturday.
