Default Maintenance and Improvement

You players that have played a Birdshot tournament, your course maintenance and improvement funds are at work. I went to Home Depot today and ordered stainless steel chain link for baskets 1,2,8. 8 strands of 20 links per basket. #8 already had 2 strands still there. I also bought S hooks and went out there today and crimped them in. It is going to be about 43' of chain at $1.30 a foot = $56. The S hooks are 3 for $2. The cost per basket is about $25. Chain links should be in next Wednesday. And no, I am not doing the practice basket.

Chuck, Thanks a bunch!

Paul Richardson and I installed most all of the double-chains around town on the old-style baskets. We figured out a way that we could avoid the S-hooks completely and save a few extra $$. When you cut the chain, if you keep the link that you cut in order to separate the chain, you can use it instead of an S-hook. It takes a big, honking pair of channel-lock pliers to pinch them shut around the support bar on the top of the basket, but the $$ it saves (at 8 S-hooks per basket) really adds up after a while.

Thanks for the advice Ching. In the future I will talk to Home Depot about the cutting that they do and check the price on the pliers. Are there any other single chain baskets on our tournament courses that need to be double chained? I know First Colony has single chained baskets. We don't currently have the funds for doing the whole course though.

I finally got the chains in at Mozola. All but one. One of the S hooks I had put on #8 must not have been crimped enough. I will get another S hook and hang that last chain. The course looks good except for that big tree next to basket #1. Maybe the parks dept. will get to it eventually. I hope that Richard Fason and whoever else can put in a A,B,C holes in the extended area.

Thumbs up Re: Maintenance and Improvement

Thank you for the map Richard. It looks really good. I think I have a visual of where the baskets will be. Birdshot has a tournament at Mozola next February. Maybe we can put in the three temps for the non PDGA tournament. Its going to be mystery doubles. Preregistration and day of signups if spots available. I'll email you later Richard.

Your welcome for the chains. Are there any other baskets out there that need chains? A second set runs about $25.
