Is it cool to come to random draw doubles by yourself. what i mean by this is......If i come by myself will I be the only odd person out? or is it common for people to come solo?

I think I'm with Lou on this one. Most TX Doubs seem like they play Cali with one extra throw per hole, not per lie like all the real teams get. Unless you're a Pro or get paired with a very bad player the one extra throw will typically put you at a disadvantage vs. the field of teams getting two throws per lie. The rationalization there is that since the Cali player is only putting up one entry fee vs. a team's two entry fees they should be at a disadvantage. I've heard of some doubles that let the Cali player pay 2x the entry fee (including ace pot) to get one extra throw per lie. But I think that gives the Cali player too much of an advantage. (Think about how many times you sink that second putt attempt in casual rounds when you make the adjustment.) I've developed a liking to a Cali system like this:
Also, technically all AM age protected divisions are "Advanced" divisions, but for the purpose of this you could group MM1 with Pro/Advanced-1 extra shot, MG1 with Intermediate-2 extra shots, and MS1 with Rec/Novice-3 extra shots. Whatever you do... a Cali player that only pays into the Ace Pot once should only win the Ace Pot if they hit it on their first tee shot, not a second tee shot on the same hole. Entering the Ace Pot side bet entitles a player to 18 chances at an Ace. A Cali player shouldn't get potentially 36 chances for the same price. |

I've always thought that Cali should get the same number of shots as the teams do....it only seems fair....but most people I've played with only allow the one extra shot per hole. Is there no clear cut rule for doubles through PDGA rules, as far as this is concerned?

doubles always throws me off because of the pace and the timing of it all, but for some people they like it better
